How to Water Cool Your Computer

You would think that water and electronic don't mix, but today’s powerful computers need serious cooling solutions. Water has a much higher specific heat that air, which means that it is much more efficient at transporting heat. This gives water cooling a few advantages over air cooling.

First, you can keep your processor much cooler. The cooler your CPU is, the longer it will last. I read somewhere that for every 10 degrees C you reduce your processor temperature, the processor will last twice as long. Colder processors can also be over clocked further. If you are trying to extract maximum performance from your processor, water cooling is almost a must.

Water cooling can also be much quieter than air cooling. To dissipate lots of heat, an air cooling solution normally uses closely packed fins on the heat sink and a fan with a very high RPM. The combination of the two produces a very noticeable whistle and electronic whine. Using an adequate radiator and large fan, water cooling can be almost silent.

There are, of course, a few drawbacks you need to consider before jumping into water-cooling. The first and most obvious is that you have to be careful that you system doesn’t leak or spill onto your electronics. Water cooling also requires a little bit of maintenance. You will have to check at least once a month for corrosion and make sure there is still plenty of water. Of course, I think both are easy and well worth the benefits.

In this guide, I will show you how to safely and cheaply build a water-cooling system:

Also, if you need more information about a specific feature of BitTorrent or other ways to use it, here are some resources:
